To Trust God’s Silence

Being in a relationship with God feels awesome. The peace, comfort, and love one can feel through it makes life incredible. This is not the case all the time, however. Trials, hard times , or simple apathy can make one feel as if God isn’t there, or if they are doing something wrong. An example of one of these situations can be found in Mark 4:35-41. In the scripture, Jesus calls his disciples to journey with him in a small ship over a body of water. As they are sailing over, they come across a great storm that threatens to sink the ship. At this point Jesus had promptly fallen asleep inside the boat, and was remaining unconscious throughout the storm. The disciples wake him up, asking him if he even cared that they were about to die. Jesus immediately stills the storm, before questioning the disciples about their lack of faith. 

This is a story of chastisement, a warning to not have a lack of faith; but, it is also a story of comfort. It goes to show how even when we can't see it, or understand it, or even believe it, Jesus is still there, and he will still bring us safely to shore. It also shows the importance of faith. For even when we can’t bear our own burdens, when we are sinking from the waves of life, Jesus in his power will hold us up. All we have to do is ask, not in doubt but in faith, for him to help us, and he will. 

“In my distress I called upon the LORD, And cried unto my God: He heard my voice out of his temple, And my cry came before him, even into his ears.” (‭‭Psalm 18‬:‭‭6)
